Circumstances: Entanglement
“Mayhem” a sub-adult loggerhead sea turtle was rescued on September 17th from Russell-Fields City Pier in Panama City Beach in Bay County. He/she was entangled in a massive wad of fishing gear. The gear was wrapped around the right front flipper and had created fairly deep wounds. There were also light entanglement wounds on the left front flipper. Internal gear was also found to be ingested.
The external gear was removed and Mayhem has been placed on antibiotics. Cotton balls are being added to the diet in hopes to assist in passing the internal gear naturally. Mayhem will be closely monitored until the gear has passed and external wounds heal.
